SHAPES
"Shapes with the addition of color and dimension define all my work. Many of the shapes I construct and some I paint into the composition; some are “lucky finds” – fragments I might pick up from the street. The various shapes are used to start new pieces or to enrich a work in progress. The finished work is a unification of the painted surface, the color areas are a counterpoint to the underlying form. My works are a kind of visual jazz. They are complex, colorful, multi-rhythmic and since I use no preliminary drawings, totally improvisational. I work intuitively and create as I proceed. The surprise for me is not only the new images, but the spirit and vitality which still informs my work. “  Ethel Farkas
